Fargo South/Shanley Boys head West to take on Bismarck High in a non-conference game and a possible match-up preview in a few weeks should both teams qualify for the state tournament and the seeds work out. The Bruins, behind a strong goaltending performance, win over the Demons 3-1.
Fargo Davies Boys host one of the top four teams from the West Region in a non-conference game as Minot High came to Fargo but will leave with a 2-1 loss to the Eagles.
Bottineau/Rugby get tested at home tonight is a West Region match-up with Mandan in a battle of the "Braves" school nicknames. Bottineau/Rugby keep their region title hopes alive with a close 5-4 victory over Mandan.
G.F. Central picks up a very big East Region game on the road at Devils Lake tonight 3-2. For the Knights, the win is large because they were tied with West Fargo in the standings with 9-points. If they remain tied at the end of next week, West Fargo owns the tie breaker and would move ahead of Central in the standings. Now Central controls its own fate as they need just one point to keep West Fargo in 7th Place or if West Fargo fails to get a win over Red River then Central will stay ahead of West Fargo no matter what the Knights do against Fargo South/Shanley in their final conference game. The Knights can still claim a 4th or 5th place finish so a win is needed against the Bruins who sit 1-point ahead of them in the standings.
West Fargo Girls drop second straight game against another top ranked opponent. After losing a close 2-1 game to the unbeaten Fargo South Bruins this past week, the Packers had the top team in Section 8 from Minnesota the Warroad Warriors. The Packers dropped a 5-2 decision to the Warriors tonight.
Williston Girls pick up one win and eliminate two teams in the process as the Coyotes defeat Dickinson 8-0 at home in Girls hockey Friday Night. Along with the win and a 2-point advantage over Mandan for the 8th and final state tournament berth, the Coyotes have officially eliminated Dickinson and Devils Lake from gaining a berth in the state tournament in three weeks. Mandan travels to Williston for a 3:15 showdown today. A Williston win clinches the final state tournament spot and eliminates Mandan. If Williston fails to gain the two points for the win tomorrow the Mandan Braves will still be alive in the two team race for the final spot in the state hockey tournament. Mandan has Williston today and games with Jamestown and Fargo South left on their conference schedule. Williston has Mandan today plus conference games with Fargo North and West Fargo. Williston owns a 6-3 win over Mandan earlier this year so Mandan has to factor that into the game tomorrow just in case the teams are tied in points at the end of the regular season and split their season series they will decide the tie breaker by goal differential between the two teams games.

The 2011-12 Girls Coaches Poll is now uploaded and Fargo South was the near unanimous choice to win it all this season.
I apologize for the delay in this poll but finally received the last ballot today so have now uploaded the Girls 2011-12 Coaches Poll voted on by the 11-Head Coaches in the state. Fargo South has been tabbed the favorite to win the 2011-12 State Championship as the Bruins received 9 of the 11 first place votes. The Bruins finished last season with an overall record of [20-5-0] and a conference mark of [16-3-0]. They finished 3rd in the state tournament last year with a 3-2 overtime win over Grand Forks. Grand Forks, who finished 4th in the state tournament last year, is picked to finish as the second place team this year. The Knightriders finished at [15-9-2] overall and [13-4-2] in the conference last year. West Fargo and Fargo North who played in last years state championship game round out the top four teams picked for this years poll. A complete list of all eleven teams can be located by clicking on the "Coaches Poll" Tab at the top of the site.
East Region Head Coaches pick G.F. Red River to win the East
The East Region Coaches have tabbed G.F. Red River to win the East Region this year as they received 7 of 8 first place votes. Since teams cannot vote for themselves, the Roughriders garnished all votes from the remaining East Region Head Coaches. The defending East Region Champions as well as last years State Champions finished the 2010-11 season with an overall record of [21-6-0] and a region mark of [10-4-0]. The Grafton/Park River Spoilers were picked second and did gain one first place vote. The Spoilers who were the state runner-up team to the Riders will again be trying to knock off G.F. Red River this season. The Spoilers finished last year with a [15-11-1] overall record and a region record of [8-5-1]. Grand Forks Central came in as the third team in the poll with Fargo North rounding out the top four. The complete East Region Coaches Poll and points as well as last years records can be located under the Coaches Poll Tab on this site.
West Region Head Coaches pick Bismarck Century to win the West!
The West Region Coaches Poll is now finalized and located in the Coaches Poll Tab. The West Region Head Coaches vote on this poll and this year the nine coaches have tabbed Bismarck Century as the favorite to win the West Region for the second year. Last year the Patriots went a perfect [15-0-0] in the region and also won the West Region Tournament with a victory over Minot High in the championship game. Bottineau/Rugby has been selected second as the Braves missed out on the state tournament last year after going [16-8-0]-overall on the year and [11-4-0] in the Region. Bismarck High is picked third with Minot rounding out the top four teams in the West Region. Of the Nine Coaches votes, Century received 5 first place votes with Bottineau/Rugby and Bismarck High each gaining 2 first place votes. The remainder of the coaches poll and teams rankings can be found on this site under the Coaches Poll Tab.
NDHSAA Board of Directors passes Shootouts for Boys and Girls High School Hockey Games beginning this fall for the 2011-12 season.
The 2011-12 High School Hockey Season will have a new twist this fall as the NDHSAA Board passed at their annual meeting this week Shootouts for all North Dakota Boys and Girls High School Hockey Games. Here is the written regulations and policies as sent to me from Mr. Matt Fetsch of the NDHSAA who oversees high school hockey for the state.
*********************************************************************************************
During regular-season games, if the game remains tied at the end of the eight (8) minute overtime period, the teams will proceed to a shootout. The rules governing the shootout shall be the same as those listed under Rule 4, Section 7 - Penalty Shot.
The teams will not change ends for the shootout. The home team shall have the choice of shooting first or second. The teams shall alternate shots.
Three (3) players from each team shall participate in the shootout and they shall proceed in such order as the Head Coach selects. All players are eligible to participate in the shootout unless they are serving a ten-minute misconduct or have been assessed a game misconduct or game disqualification.
Once the shootout begins, the goalkeeper cannot be replaced unless he/she is injured. No warm up shall be permitted for a substitute goalkeeper.
Each team will be given three shots, unless the outcome is determined earlier in the shootout. After each team has taken three shots, if the score remains tied, the shootout will proceed to a "sudden death" format. No player may shoot twice until everyone who is eligible has shot. If, however, one team has fewer players eligible for the shootout than its opponent, both teams may select from among the players who have already shot. This procedure would continue until the team with fewer players has again used all eligible shooters.
Regardless of the number of goals scored during the shootout portion of overtime, the final score recorded for the game will give the winning team one more goal than its opponent, based on the score at the end of overtime.
The losing goalkeeper will not be charged with the extra goal against. The player scoring the game-winning goal in the shootout will not be credited with a goal scored in his/her personal statistics.
If a team declines to participate in the shootout procedure, the game will be declared as a shootout loss for that team. If a team declines to take a shot it will be declared as "no goal"
